Riley’s Toys Foundation’s, Riley Hebbard was recently selected as a regional nominee in the Kohl’s Cares program receiving a $50 gift card and recognition certificate from Kohl’s department store.
The program, Kohl’s Cares is part of the department store chain’s corporate social responsibility efforts and provides children with positive re-enforcement for volunteering in addition to thousands of dollars in scholarships and non-profit support.
From the Kohl’s website…
Every year, Kohl’s recognizes and rewards young volunteers (ages 6-18) across the country for their amazing contributions to their communities. This year we are recognizing more than 13,000 kids with more than $2.6 million in scholarships and prizes.
The selection process first starts on a local, then regional, and, ultimately, a national level. At each turn Kohl’s selects winners based on, “the project, benefits and outcome.”
Some quick facts about the program…
In total, Kohl’s will recognize nearly the 2,200 nominees with nearly $420,000 in scholarships and prizes this year.
Since the program began in 2001, Kohl’s has awarded more than 13,000 youth volunteers with more than $2.6 million in scholarships and prizes.
Since 2009 has shipped more than 18k toys to refugee and orphan children in locations throughout continental Africa including Zimbabwe,Lethoso, and Zambia.
Started by, then four year-old, Riley Hebbard who has seen a television program showcasing the lives of children in Darfur, Sudan. Riley asked her mother to send her toys to the children in the television program, who had no toys at their schools. Later, Riley asked others including her pre-school class, church, elementary school classes, and others to get involved by donating.
Others can support Riley’s Toys Foundation by bringing gently-used and new toys to drop-off locations (no battery operated or violence related toys please), by making monetary contributions, or by volunteering to count toys and/or perform other necessary activities.
Riley’s Toys has an annual Summer Toy Drive (going on now) each year from May to August, and hope to send 10+ pallets of toys (approximately 10k toys) to children this fall.

Riley and the rest of the team at RTF - thank you!
Our 1st Annual Riley’s Toys Gold Tournament was a complete success this year! So great, in fact, we will be hosting another next year. Look out for “Save the Date” cards early fall!
A big “thank you” to our sponsors, and to those who have already signed on with us again for next year! We are very excited.
The tournament began 1pm Friday, June 10th at Silver Spring Golf Course. It was a gorgeous day, and Riley had a blast with all who were in attendance.
After all the foursomes, donations for games, raffles, 50/50, we raised enough to donate over 1,000 toys. Thanks again for contributing to our cause!
The Cause Marches On!
We hope you’ll help continue to help us provide toys to children who need them. As the 2011 Summer Toy-Drive rolls on, we know you’ll give to help restore smiles, laughter, and hope for orphan and refugee children.
Thank you … and thank you. By making a donation to Riley’s Toys Foundation you’re giving children in need more support and assurance that they won’t face genocide, AIDS epidemic, fatherless and other harsh realities of life alone. Our children, the world’s children, deserve it.
The teams line-up! There were more than 40 players in attendance.
Riley took a minute away from putting practice for a quick snap-shot.
After 18 holes players had a nice meal, and Riley counted raffle tickets.
Steak dinners served up by the excellent chefs at Silver Spring Golf Course. Yum!
All in all - it was a hit! Riley congratulates a raffle winner with a hi-five.
On Thursday, May 26nd, 2011 Riley met with representatives from Hasbro, Inc. to accept the Community Action Hero Award at the 10th Annual Art of Giving Benefit. The award is an honor and recognition for the work of Riley’s Toys Foundation.
Over the past two years Riley along with the tireless help of her mother and father, her family, and supporting local and far-reaching communities have stepped up to provide toys and funding for children throughout Africa. The result has meant that Riley’s Toys Foundation has sent more than 18K toys to refugee and orphan children in Lethoso, Zimbabewe, and throughout Africa.
Riley wasn’t alone in receiving honors, other child leaders were also present as ceremony hosts Hasbro, Inc. along with event partners GenerationOn combined to showcase and honor 6 children from across the country.
In a press release submitted to PR Newswire Executive Director of GenerationOn, a subsidiary of Points of Light, Christopher Caruso said, … “It is our hope that the Hasbro Community Action Hero Award winners inspire other kids around the world to discover their own passion for service and realize that not only can they be part of the solution to the problems that face their communities, but that in fact they can lead the charge for positive change.”
Here’s to both young and old leading the way for positive change in within and beyond our own communities!
Learn more about how you can help Riley’s Toys Foundation by creating a drop-off center in your neighborhood or by making donation to allow us to send more toys to more children.
